Event proceeds fund student scholarships at Mendocino College
The Mendocino College Foundation’s annual Gala was held on Saturday, August 11 in Pomo Plaza at Mendocino College. Once again, the foundation partnered with Mendocino Winegrowers, Inc. (MWI) and this year’s event marked the 31st and final Gala.
Over 300 loyal supporters and fans of education participated in the event with 100% of the proceeds being used to fund student scholarships at Mendocino College.
The ever exuberant Senator Mike McGuire lead the live and fund a need auction bringing in over $65,000 in revenue. Emeritus Foundation President, Richard Cooper served as the event emcee assisting McGuire in the evening’s frolics.
This year’s fund a need was a drive to create named scholarships in honor of each individual who served as a foundation president. The foundation was established in 1984 and has enjoyed the leadership of 18 distinguished presidents. In date order they are: Sybil Hinkle, Gabrielle Thomas, Claudia Smith Hill, Charles Mannon, Tony Scully, Dan Thomas, Mark DeMeulenaere, Martha Barra, Gary Gamble, Bruce Crook, Donna Berry, Wilda Shock, Tom Herman, Channing Cornell, Gary D. Smith, Richard Cooper, Charley Myers and Marilyn Harden.
Guests mingled throughout Pomo Plaza sampling 17 beverage stations and enjoying passed appetizers by Ellery Clark Catering. Beverage stations included Barra Winery, Bonterra, Brutocao, Campovida, Enoteca, Frey, Graziano, Greenwood Ridge, Handley Cellars, Jaxon Keys, Long Meadow Ranch, Naughty Boy, Rivino, Saracina, Seebass, Testa and Trinafour.
The ever popular wine-pull was open for business with the highly sought after Roederer magnums in the lineup. A few of the silent auction items were a case of award winning wines from Mendocino County, Jan Hoyman Pottery, numerous experiences on the Mendocino Coast and stays at Jaxon Keys and the Inn at Newport Ranch. The live auction included a beautiful set of patio furniture generously donated by Freidmans, a week in a Palm Desert Condominium, Alaskan Fishing Adventure at King Salmon Lodge and a Masut experience to name a few.
