Over $3,000 Raised to Support the Food Pantry

On Tuesday, November 29, Mendocino College Students took part in the college’s first annual Giving Tuesday event. All of the proceeds will be used to purchase non-perishable food for the on-campus food pantry.

The Mendocino College Foundation Office coordinated this year’s event and set a modest goal of $1,000 since it was something new to the college community. “We raised $3,010 from over 100 supporters with the majority being students. The point was to have students feel what it’s like to give and help others in need,” stated Katie Fairbairn, Executive Director.

The free food pantry is located on the main campus in Ukiah and eligibility requirements are that individuals be a student enrolled in the current semester and regularly attending classes and only use the pantry on an emergency basis. Students need to complete a basic form in the Student Services Office in MacMillan Hall, Room 1000 to access the pantry.

Giving Tuesday is a global event which was created to unite everyone in the world towards a day of giving. The idea is to make a difference in the world any way we choose at the start of this busy holiday season.
