Fundraising event celebrates local wine, beer, champagne and food purveyors

Mendocino College Foundation’s annual Gala was held on Saturday, August 12 and showcased the BEST of MENDOCINO COUNTY. The best food, wine, beer, champagne and gifts were available to guests.

Over 400 guests attended the annual fundraiser which supports student scholarships at Mendocino College. This year’s event was a partnership between the Mendocino College Foundation and the Mendocino Wine Growers. The annual event was held under the really big tent on the Stadium Field. Guests mingled under the tent sampling a beautiful array of food and beverages from local purveyors, joined in the fun of the wine pull, live and silent auction and golden ticket trip giveaway.

Senator Mike McGuire was this year’s enthusiastic and energetic auctioneer who raised $28,000 to fund a new scoreboard for the baseball field. Eight of the MC Baseball players joined McGuire onstage, and for every donation towards their new scoreboard the players took turns giving out signed baseballs which simply said thank you.

“Survey results are still coming in from the guests, but the feedback so far indicates that everyone “loved being under the tent and thought the selection of beverages and food were outstanding,” stated Marilyn Harden, Special Event Chair.

Of those surveyed, 87% said that the selection of wine and appetizer stations were excellent! Guests loved the new setting on the stadium field; they thought the food was fantastic and our local restaurants wowed everyone with their first class food; the Culinary Arts Management Program (CAM) was mentioned several times and people enjoyed talking to the students in the program; everyone enjoyed the “fun” factor in this year’s event and gave Senator Mike McGuire high praise for outstanding live auctioneering skills;

Prizes included auction lots from Jan Hoyman Pottery, Leonard Lake Reserve, Handley Cellars, Jaxon Keys, Potting Shed built by the Sustainable Tech Program Students, gifts from Habitat, Cold Creek Compost, Germain Robin and a big Traeger barbeque courtesy of Friedman’s Home Improvement to name a few.

The event has raised over $125,000 and additional donations are still being received. In addition to the fund a need, proceeds from this event provide scholarships and book awards to students attending a Mendocino College campus in Ukiah, Willits, Lakeport and Fort Bragg.
