Scholarship Applicant Emily Berg is the Winner!

When Emily Berg received an email from Eliza Fields letting her know that she had won a brand new pair of Apple airpods in a random drawing at Mendocino College, she admits that her first thought was its a scam.  Fortunately, it was not a fraud, Berg was randomly chosen to win the airpods as part of the Mendocino College Foundation’s incentive program to encourage students to complete their scholarship application.

Emily Berg is working towards a degree in biology for transfer.  Her plans include attending Humboldt State University to pursue a degree in the Wildlife Management Program.

She admitted that this was her first time applying for a scholarship of any kind, and she found the process simple and easy.  When asked what she likes about Mendocino College, she quickly said the laid-back environment, beautiful campus and her awesome teachers.

“More students applied for a scholarship at Mendocino College than ever before, with over 300 students completing the on-line application process,” stated Jerry Chaney, Foundation Director and Scholarship Committee Chair.

Annually, the Foundation provides over $200,000 in student scholarships.  In addition, “the public provides what we call pass-through scholarships and those include over $30,000 annually.  We are able to provide a significant amount of financial assistant to our students in order to keep them moving forward and successful,” said Chaney.
