Ukiah, CA – The “Friends of the Mendocino College Veterans and Dependents”, became an affiliate of the Mendocino College Foundation, Inc. after board approval on Tuesday, October 5, 2021 at the Foundation Board of Directors meeting.

The ‘Friends of the Mendocino College Veterans and Dependents’ (FMCVD) supports military Veterans and their dependents by providing resources and support in order for them to focus on, and meet, their educational goals while awaiting processing of their VA educational benefits. The FMCVD collaborates with local like-minded organizations in the Mendocino-Lake College District to generate support for students and the Veteran Resource Center.

The affiliate will help raise money to provide scholarships to military Veterans and their dependents to bridge the gap of time between the start of the semester and their first payment of VA educational benefits, provide scholarship to those military Veterans and their dependents that are pursuing a program but are unable to maintain full-time status per VA requirements, to fund special needs as identified by the school certifying official, Anastasia Simpson-Logg, in consultation with FMCVD governing council, and to support the needs of the Veteran Resource Center.

The observance of the holiday known as “Veterans Day” is a time to celebrate and honor our Veterans for their patriotism, love of country, and willingness to serve and sacrifice for the common good. As we celebrate, let us think of our fellow Veterans who have sacrificed and are trying to re-enter into civilian life while bettering themselves through education.

The Friends of the Mendocino College Veterans and Dependents affiliate currently have positions open on its Governing Council. For more information about serving on the governing council, please contact Anastasia Simpson-Logg by calling 707-468-3102 or emailing asimpson@mendocino.edu.
